Everyone has dreamt about it at some stage. Wouldn't it be great to stay at home and work in your pyjamas? What reasons do you need to become a homeworker?

Most homeworkers are too busy to stay in their pyjamas, but becoming a homeworker can be a hard decision to make. You may have family depending on your wages, and you will still need to pay bills and to meet your obligations. However, there is still a dream that one day you might work for yourself, make your own business pay, and enable a better life for your family. Here are some reasons that you might like to consider:

Use your talent or passion

You can use your passion to set up your own business. Have you always been a good writer? Are you good with crafts like knitting or sewing? Perhaps you have a hobby that you would like to get into trading? Look into your passions and see if they can be turned into work. Alternatively, your job may provide you with the skills -- you just need to look into setting up your own business so that you can organise your own contacts.

Staying home with children

One of the main reasons for people wanting to work from home is their children. It can be difficult to hold down a full-time job and cope with the day-to-day problems of sick children or sports days or even play performances. Not everyone has a sympathetic boss, and it can be difficult to keep asking for days off. You don't want to miss those days that are so special for the children, but when you have an important meeting scheduled for the same time, it can be difficult to reconcile the two. Working from home enables you to schedule your own time, even if that means working at night when the children are in bed.

Leave a job with no prospects

Perhaps you are in a job with no prospects, or a job that needs a manager to move on before you can get a promotion. When you are working for yourself, then you can set your own finances. The amount that you can earn is up to you and the ability to earn is limitless, depending on your own energy and ability to market successfully. Working for yourself can increase your own prospects and enable you to do more with your life.

Save money on transport

Working from home enables you to save on transport. In these days when costs of travelling by train and car are spiralling ever upward, you have the opportunity to stay and work from home. You will need a computer, and some costs like heating may rise, but these can be offset against any taxes you have to pay.

Gain satisfaction

Working from home gives you a deep sense of satisfaction. Perhaps you have stopped enjoying your job, or you have never felt that it was for you. It can be easy for bosses to overlook their employees' skills and not use them effectively. You know your strengths, and can work on your weaknesses while you are working for yourself.

There are many more benefits to working from home; these are just a few. Whatever your reasons for taking the plunge: think it through carefully, do the sums, and research your target market. You don't have to give up work straight away. You can begin slowly at night learning the ropes and building your business gradually. Never give up the dream.
